On Web Archive
One of the more notable, but relatively obscure projects on the web today is the internet archive. In many ways it seems to work like google without a business plan, with a huge array of music, video, and footage that may have some value, although 1930's popeye and copies of Reefer Madness are some of their highlights. However, the ""web archive""is something of great interest, and I finally managed to find some old political Speeches by are Prime Minister elect that the NCC had long since pulled off their website.
Unlike google, which is often hit or miss and you can rely on cached versions with only limited success, the Internet archive has captured various Websites at points in their history. I even found a number of versions of dangrice.com & stvforbc.com, which showed me a few of my own transitions and redesigns. When I look at my sites I can see about 10 point in time captures, which I generally have archives of anyways.
I couldn't find a good ""term search"", so you still have to know which site to look at, but once you found it, its pretty each to route through their information and their past. I had been looking for some of Harpers old writings for awhile, as I remember when he won the CA leadership, I had at that time found a speech in which he was claiming not to be the person making decision for this country:
""So what are the real needs of the country? Or rather, what are the policies which would appeal to some significant, coherent proportion of voters, especially among the 60% or so of the electorate which would be prepared to not vote Liberal? I don’t know. And fortunately my job doesn’t require me to run for public office and provide an answer to this question. But I am at least free to muse out loud on the subject without worrying whether my rantings and ravings will or won’t get political power."" NCC, 2001
I really don't see anything in his speeches that are a smoking gun, but it is still interesting to be able to track them down. I'm not even sure if this was the speech that I was reading, but it was close enough none the less. Anyways, the NCC has since pulled all his opinion pieces from their website, and google can't even find the text.
One day, I'm sure my past words will come back to haunt me, and I personally think its what you say you will do and not what you have said in the past thats important, but alas, nothing you say on the net is private or can be hidden in the future. So beware.
