CKNW Vancouver Quadra All Candidates Debate..Listen Here

Wow.

Earlier today I was on CKNW along with the other candidates. It was a blast, right off the bat I challenged the other candidates on the carbon tax and Bill Good posed the question to each of them whether they supported the idea.

I made it clear that we had the only comprehensive plan that would actually get results and I'm not entirely sure that the other candidates disagreed. Of course, neither the Conservatives, NDP nor Liberals have adopted the required steps which made it rather difficult for them to support our position. Joyce Murray admitted that we had to put a price on carbon, although I didn't have the opportunity to ask her why the Liberal Plan waited until after industry has exhausted all of their credits to start charging them.

Deborah was put in a tough spot, right off the bat the producer mentioned that this riding would be hard for her and I think this set the tone for the conversation. I have to listen to the interview a little more, but she began talking about how private companies need to be able to compete with public ones in healthcare, which will probably come back to haunt her.

Of course, at one point the Conservatives tried to change the conversation back to crime but made the mistake of tying stiffer sentencing for serious crime in with property crime which is the primary concern in the neighborhood. I didn't have much time to talk about the solutions, but I did make a jab at their minimum sentence legislation.

Anyways, can't wait for a full debate. An hour on the radio ends up being about 30 minutes of discussion and is hardly enough time to point out others policy flaws.
